Under 13 Performance Squad vs Hartland Girls Academy

JPL Warriors Cup U13 Group 5

Our U13 Performance team kicked off their competitive season with a challenging debut in the JPL Warriors, facing a strong and physical Hartland Girls Academy. This match proved to be a fantastic learning experience for the entire squad and provided a clear picture of the intensity required to compete at this level. The team’s development will be a journey, and we are confident that partnerships and relationships across the pitch will continue to strengthen as the season progresses.

The game started with an early test of our character, as we went a goal down from a penalty. Despite this early setback, the girls showed great resilience and pushed forward to create several scoring opportunities. We looked dangerous in attack, with Amy coming agonizingly close to an equaliser when her powerful shot hit the post. Hartland extended their lead with a well-struck long-range effort, but our girls remained determined.

In the second half, the physical demands of the JPL level became more evident. The Hartland team showed an incredible desire to win the ball back high up the pitch, giving our girls very little time and space. We often found ourselves in tough 1v1 duels, which is something we will learn from and continue to improve on. However, there were some truly excellent passages of play from the back, showing that the girls continued to try and play our style of football despite the pressure. This is a testament to their dedication and potential. Moving forward, a key focus for us will be developing our off-the-ball movement, ensuring our players are always ready to show for the ball and win it back as quickly as possible if possession is lost.

While the result was not what we hoped for, the girls were not outplayed; they were simply outfought at times, which is a valuable lesson. This match highlighted the areas we need to work on as a squad. One player who truly stood out with her constant desire and intensity was Amy, who was rightly awarded Player of the Match. Her relentless running caused their defence problems all game, and she was unlucky not to find the back of the net. Well done, Amy!

A huge well done to the girls on their first competitive game as a team. We will continue to work hard with them in training on the areas identified over the coming weeks and months.
