Under 11 Performance Squad vs Montpelier Villa Galaxy Girls

JPL Warriors Cup U12 Group 5

The U11 performance squad faced a tough challenge today, playing up a year in the JPL Warriors Cup. With only one substitute, it was a test of stamina and spirit, and the girls showed incredible resilience to earn a well-deserved draw in a thrilling 3-3 battle.

The game started with the girls feeling the pressure from a strong Montpelier side. We struggled to win the ball and find our rhythm, and after ten minutes, Montpelier capitalized with a goal. Our girls needed to calm the game down and find their footing. Just before the first quarter ended, we managed to level the score when Caitlyn unleashed a stunning strike from a tight angle, assisted by a perfect through-ball from Jess.

The second quarter saw Montpelier continue to dominate, but our defence held firm. Despite our best efforts, a loose ball in the box allowed them to snatch another goal, leaving us 2-1 down at halftime. The break was a chance to regroup. The coaches challenged the girls to increase their intensity and put more pressure on the opposition.

The team came out of the break with renewed energy and purpose. Our offence looked much more dangerous in the third quarter. Jess was rewarded for her relentless effort with a goal of her own, holding off defenders and slotting the ball home after Caitlyn returned the favor with an excellent pass. We could've easily taken the lead, but the Montpelier keeper pulled off some incredible saves. Unfortunately, against the run of play, Montpelier managed to score a third goal just before the quarter ended.

Going into the final quarter, the girls were visibly tired, but they dug deep and gave it their all. With only seconds left on the clock and the team throwing everything forward, Caitlyn broke through the Montpelier defence and coolly slotted home the equalizing goal, securing our first point in this new competition!

Today's game was a great learning experience. It showed the girls that they can compete at a higher level if they remain calm and play their own game. We're incredibly proud of their determination and fight.

Player of the Match: Jess - your performance in central midfield was outstanding. You worked tirelessly to close down the opposition, find attacking options, and minimize Montpelier’s time on the ball. You took some hard knocks but never gave up, and your goal and assist were a fantastic reward for your efforts!
