JPL Warriors Cup U12 Group 4
They say you can only beat what's put in front of you, but for the girls' today, the challenge was twofold: a tiny pitch and relentless 40 mph winds. Despite the adverse conditions, the team secured a dominant 16-2 victory against Chippenham Town.
The team started strong, scoring within the first minute. However, the initial momentum didn't immediately settle the team, and the first ten minutes were a bit chaotic as they adjusted to the compact pitch and blustery weather. Once they found their rhythm, the goals started flowing. They finished the first quarter with a commanding 4-0 lead and extended that to a comfortable 9-0 by halftime with five more goals in the second quarter.
The second half saw the team prioritise a collective effort, with players swapping positions to create more scoring opportunities for their teammates. This tactical shift, while leading to two goals conceded, resulted in seven more goals for the team, ensuring that all but one player got on the scoresheet.
Player of the Match was Xanthe. Xanthe was a force in the midfield today. On a small pitch with crowded play, her quick feet and excellent passing vision were on full display. She consistently found a way to create attacking opportunities, setting up multiple chances for her teammates.
The girls' knew from earlier results that this match would likely be one of their more straightforward games, and so it proved. A big shout-out, however, to the Chippenham Town team. They fought hard for the full 80 minutes and never let their heads drop, even scoring a brilliant goal from a well-executed corner routine. We wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.
