U12 Division 1
Our U12 Maroon team continued their season with a hard-fought 3-1 victory away to a well-organised Basingstoke side. It was a game of two halves, with the team showcasing moments of brilliance but also struggling to maintain their momentum.
The team started strong, displaying excellent passing and movement that put the opposition on the back foot. However, this early dominance faded, and the girls found themselves chasing the game. Despite this, a well-executed passage of play led to a crucial goal just before halftime, giving the team a much-needed 1-0 lead.
After the break, a renewed sense of purpose was evident. The midfield duo provided excellent support to the forward line, creating numerous chances. A brilliant strike from Megan put the Maroons 2-0 up. However, defensive lapses proved to be a persistent issue, and a missed tackle led to Basingstoke pulling one back, making it 2-1.
The team showed resilience, however, and sealed the win with a goal that came from a fortunate deflection. While the team celebrated a victory, there were clear lessons to be learned about defensive positioning, tackling, and supporting one another on the pitch.
Despite the challenges, the girls dug deep to secure the win. The team's Player of the Match was awarded to Melissa for her standout performance.
