Hampshire FA U12 Girls Cup
Our U12 Performance delivered a commanding display today in the Hampshire FA U12 Girls Cup, securing a convincing 13-0 victory against Romsey Town Lionesses, a team from Division 3. The scoreline certainly reflected what was a very one-sided cup tie.
The coaching staff challenged the starting lineup to set the foundations for our play, and the girls executed the plan effectively. Despite a wet and sticky grass pitch, the team put together some nice phases of play and, crucially against weaker opposition, largely resisted the temptation to hold onto the ball too long.
A key takeaway for future matches was the need to play the ball even quicker, focusing on one or two-touch passes where possible. This will be vital when facing teams that bunch and utilise the parity rule to have extra players on the pitch, as Romsey did for the majority of the game.
On the whole, the entire team performed exceptionally well. The large margin allowed the coaching staff to capitalise on the opportunity to play the girls in various positions throughout the match, resulting in a phenomenal 10 different goal scorers across the squad. Isla A made a significant impact on the pitch, contributing two goals and several assists. Her move onto the pitch was possible thanks to Jessie, who kindly offered to go in goal for the entire second half. Georgina also capped off a strong performance with a well-taken goal.
Selected by the opposition, Georgina was named Player of the Match. She made a strong contribution throughout the game, demonstrating excellent adaptability while playing in the unfamiliar position of centre forward.
Well done to all the girls for a great performance today.
