U12 Division 1
The Maroon team travelled to the KGV Cosham Football Complex to face Paulsgrove, but came away well beaten in a game the team never managed to get themselves fully into. The first half saw the girls immediately on the back foot, with Paulsgrove playing high and pinning us into our own half. Within the opening 10 minutes the girls found ourselves 2–0 down, struggling to cope with a sustained onslaught of attacks. Prompt tactical changes were made, which helped settle the girls and allowed us to regain some control of the game.
Our route back into the match came when great footwork was shown to drive a ball down the line. After taking a slight deflection off a defender, it fell kindly for a composed finish, confidently sweeping the ball past the keeper to reduce the deficit.
The second half saw the team play with much more confidence, with both teams evenly matched and the ball moving end to end. Unfortunately, it was Paulsgrove who found the decisive goal, as a sliced defensive clearance looped past our keeper. Despite creating numerous chances and posing a real threat going forward, we were unable to find the goals needed to draw level.
Player of the Match: Yasmeen
Yasmeen was excellent today, delivering her best performance yet in a Maroon shirt. She was a constant threat going forward and worked tirelessly to track back and support the defence at every opportunity. Her display deserved a goal, and she was incredibly unlucky not to get one as her shot crashed against the crossbar. Keep up the great work.
