JPL Warriors U13 Green Division
It was a tough outing for the U13 Performance team this Saturday as they faced off against a very physical and league-leading NPL Youth Tigers side. While the girls competed well in several stretches of the match, it wasn't the squad's best overall performance, as they found it difficult to settle into their usual rhythm against a high-pressing opponent.
A disappointing second quarter proved to be the turning point, as the team conceded three goals in quick succession. These were particularly frustrating as they were all avoidable had there been a bit more bravery and organisation in defending the 18-yard box. However, the group showed resilience in the second half, tightening up defensively and pushing forward with more intent. This effort was rewarded in the third quarter with a well-taken goal to narrow the deficit.
Player of the Match was awarded to Tia for her tireless work rate and clinical finish that gave the team a lifeline. While the result was not what the team hoped for, the match provided plenty of valuable learning points. The girls will look to take these lessons forward, specifically focusing on defensive bravery and maintaining intensity across all four quarters.
