Under 11 Performance vs Woking FC

JPL Warriors U12 Green Division

On Saturday, our U11 Performance team took on Woking in a high-octane JPL Warriors fixture. It was a "Silent Week" for the coaches, meaning the girls were tasked with "letting them play" while the sidelines provided only encouragement. This presented a unique challenge, forcing the players to communicate, adapt, and problem-solve entirely on their own.

The match started with us dominating possession and playing some lovely football, though we struggled to find the breakthrough. While the intensity took a little while to build, the defence and goalkeeping kept things neutral, leaving us level at the first break.

As the game progressed, the team realised they needed to adapt to a physically strong opposition. We began moving the ball quicker to avoid their solid defenders, and the strategy paid off. The deadlock was broken when a clinical finish from a corner gave us the lead, followed shortly by a confident strike from the wing after a perfect through-ball.

The third quarter was nothing short of "crazy," featuring a three-minute goal frenzy. Our attack was firing on all cylinders, including a screamer from distance and a well-placed finish following a cross that bypassed the entire box. Despite the opposition scoring a dipping strike, we headed into the final period with a commanding 6–2 lead.

However, the final quarter provided a real test of nerves. A slight loss of edge and a few mistakes allowed the opposition to score twice in two minutes, followed by a free kick that brought them within one goal with only minutes remaining. The girls showed great resilience, digging deep to hang on for a well-deserved, albeit stressful, 6–5 victory!

Without coaching input from the sidelines, it was fantastic to see several players stepping up into leadership roles to guide their teammates. It was a brilliant test of their development and tactical awareness.

This week the Player of the Match award was shared between Jessica and Elsie! The pair showed incredible chemistry, seemingly reading each other's minds with their link-up play. It was particularly pleasing to see the "one-two" passing patterns practiced in training executed so effectively in a match environment.
