Under 12 Performance (Season 2026-27) vs Hartland Academy U12

The season is underway for our U12 Performance squad, who opened their Cup campaign today against a well‑resourced Hartland side. With Hartland able to rotate heavily and keep fresh legs on the pitch, it was always going to be a demanding test for our girls.

We started by playing some good football, but at times lacked a bit of edge and were caught off guard by Hartland’s early intensity. That made it difficult to retain possession consistently, even though we created some strong chances in the first half. Just after the break, Hartland capitalised from a set‑piece to take the lead.

The third quarter proved challenging, with tired legs beginning to show. Heading into the final period, we asked the girls to move the ball quicker, anticipate forward passes and look for moments to break through a defence that had been solid throughout.

Their response was outstanding. A perfectly weighted pass from Elsie unlocked the Hartland back line and allowed Jessica to calmly finish, bringing us level and lifting the whole team. Moments later, Jessica pressed brilliantly, won the ball, beat her defender and produced another composed finish to turn the game around.

The final minutes were tense, with the girls asked to sit slightly deeper and manage the game. They did exactly that, showing maturity, resilience and real togetherness until the final whistle.

It’s fair to say this wasn’t our most complete performance, but what the girls did exceptionally well was never give up. They battled right to the end and were rightly rewarded for their effort, attitude and belief.

Player of the Match – Jessica

Jessica produced two brilliantly taken finishes in quick succession to turn what looked like a frustrating defeat into a winning start. Calm, composed and decisive in key moments — a fully deserved Player of the Match performance.
