U10 Poole Division
Today’s fixture against Purbrook Youth Eagles was always going to be challenge for our U10 Sunday team, particularly with half the squad playing up a year against competitive opposition. The small pitch amplified the boys' aggression and intensity, but the girls stuck brilliantly to their core principles of play throughout the match.
The game started competitively, with both sides battling hard for control. Unfortunately, the Eagles took the lead early on. However, the girls refused to let their heads drop and mounted an excellent response, finding the well-deserved equaliser through persistent pressure. As the match wore on, the boys continued to press aggressively, which occasionally led to mistakes as we attempted to build from the back. While this led to the concession of a couple more goals, these errors are an expected and valuable part of the learning process.
The real triumph today wasn't the scoreline, but the immense experience gained. Playing regular, high-intensity matches against boys will be hugely beneficial. It is forcing the girls to increase their speed of play and sharpen their decision-making under pressure—two essential skills for their future progression.
Finally, a huge congratulations to Isabelle, who earned Player of the Match today. Operating in central midfield, she was crucial in linking up the defence and attack, providing a vital bridge between the two halves of the team under constant pressure.
We leave today proud of their resilience and determination, knowing they will take these lessons forward and become an even stronger unit.
