Under 10 Performance Squad vs Downton Youth FC U10

U10 Autumn Division 2

Today, our U10 Performance Team traveled to Downton for a challenging fixture. While the final scoreline didn't reflect the effort and quality of the gameplay, the girls put in a tremendous performance against the odds.

We arrived with seven players, but unfortunately, Chloe was unwell and had to withdraw just before kick-off. Despite wanting desperately to play, we were forced to play the match 6-a-side with no substitutes on a large pitch—a tough ask, but one the team rose to meet.

The team started very brightly, showcasing their usual flowing football and impressive technical ability, which clearly took the opposition by surprise. Mariela, Miley, and Aleah worked tirelessly upfront to create space and opportunities, while Bella, Olive, and Primrose were superb in holding the boys at bay and calmly building the play from the back.

Despite our dominance, we were unable to capitalise on our chances and frustratingly fell behind just before the half-time whistle. We went into the break 1-0 down, slightly against the run of play, but confident in our performance.

The girls demonstrated incredible hard work and endeavour throughout the first three quarters of the game. However, with no subs and the large pitch, it was inevitable that tiredness would eventually set in. This proved to be the deciding factor in the final period, as the energy levels dipped, allowing Downton to secure the result.

Despite the score, the commitment shown was outstanding, especially when the odds were stacked against them. We face the same opponents next week in the Cup at home, and we firmly believe the team can get a result if they play with the same application and belief they showed today.

Congratulations to Primrose, who was named Player of the Match! Her composure on the ball and fantastic ability to set up attacks were a pleasure to watch and were pivotal to the team's early dominance. The application and effort from every single player today, however, was truly great to see.
