Jock McClorey Tournament U10
Our U10 Performance Team faced a significant challenge this weekend in the League Cup, playing host to a very strong Downton Youth FC side. While the result didn't go our way, the match was a brilliant showcase of our team’s character, resilience, and potential.
The match began in a challenging fashion for our squad. Following a busy schedule—including an early London tournament on Friday and weekend activities—energy levels were understandably low at the early kick-off.
The first two quarters proved difficult as the girls struggled to find their usual intensity and rhythm. Downton played well, but what followed after the break showed true grit.
The response from the team in the second half was outstanding.
After our team talk at the break, the girls stepped onto the pitch with fantastic resilience and determination. They instantly increased their intensity, began to play "our style of football," and the game transformed into a much more evenly matched contest. We created several promising chances and demonstrated brilliant team spirit. Getting a goal in this period would have further boosted confidence and changed the momentum of the game.
The final quarter continued in the same positive way—it was a real football battle with chances at both ends. The team worked incredibly hard right until the last minute, competing for every ball and never giving up.
Though the team fought hard to keep Downton at bay and get their own goal, the performance certainly didn't reflect a large difference between the two sides. The girls’ effort, especially without a regular goalkeeper, was immense.
We want to give a special shout-out to Chloe, who was awarded Player of the Match today! Her effort, focus, and drive throughout the game were exceptional and well-deserving of the recognition. Congratulations, Chloe!
The clear and significant improvement shown from the first half to the second half was the biggest positive of the day and a clear sign of the team’s potential and growth.
We are learning, we are developing, and every match is helping us grow stronger—both as players and as a team. We are incredibly proud of the attitude, effort, and togetherness shown today.
The U10s walk away with their heads held high and look forward to carrying that superb second-half energy into the next match!
