Jock McClorey U11 Tournament
Today’s fixture in the Jock McClorey Tournament was always going to be a formidable test for the U11 White team. Stepping up two divisions to face a strong Division 2 boys' side, coupled with having only nine available players and no recognised goalkeeper, meant the team faced an uphill battle from the first whistle. Despite the result, the squad’s commitment, courage, and togetherness remained clear throughout the entire match.
The coaching staff set clear objectives: to find space, create sharp angles, minimise touches in tight areas, and maintain compactness out of possession. Even under intense pressure, the girls managed to execute some positive passages of play, notably a lovely moment of quick passing that resulted in a well-worked goal—a brilliant reminder of their technical capabilities when the ball moves with purpose.
The first half proved difficult. Playing with no subs and rotating the goalkeeper made it exceptionally challenging to build from the back. The team was slow in the press and struggled to create enough passing options.
However, the team rallied with impressive determination. Once the girls settled and increased their tempo in the third quarter, a noticeable shift occurred, leading to a much more positive second half. The players worked significantly harder off the ball, closing down spaces quicker, and offering more reliable passing options in possession. The team became tighter defensively and showed better quality when winning the ball back. The determination and spirit displayed against a stronger, more physical team two divisions above were truly encouraging. There is still work to be done on ball protection and avoiding forced long passes, but the attitude shown was excellent.
A huge congratulations to Talia, who was named Player of the Match.
Talia put in an excellent shift today. She was constantly focused on reducing her touches, moving the ball quickly, and working hard to regain possession. It was a bright and hardworking performance on a difficult day. Well played.
A special thank you goes to the girls who bravely volunteered to go in goal today. Stepping into that position without a single substitute available takes real courage, and they handled the challenge brilliantly, demonstrating fantastic team spirit.
